Prime Minister Imran Khan is set to leave for China on Thursday on a four-day visit to attend the Opening Ceremony of the Winter Olympic Games and will hold bilateral talks with President Xi Jinping and premier Li Keqiang.
According to a statement by the Foreign Office, Khan will be accompanied by members of the cabinet along with senior government officials.
The premier will hold bilateral meetings with the Chinese leadership. They are expected to focus on strengthening trade and economic cooperation as well as exchange views on regional and international issues.
The statement said that Khan’s visit will mark the conclusion of celebrations honouring the 70th anniversary of diplomatic relations between China and Pakistan.
Over 140 events were organized to mark the All-Weather Strategic Cooperative Partnership. The visit will revitalize the commitment to further enhance the partnership between Pakistan and China.
The foreign office said that the premier would also conclude numerous memoranda of understanding and agreements. He would also hold meetings with important businessmen, leaders of Chinese think-tanks, and prominent Chinese personalities from academia and media fields.
The prime minister will also attend the Winter Olympics opening ceremony in order to express solidarity with Beijing as multiple western nations have diplomatically boycotted the event.
