A massive fire broke out at Lahore’s Children’s Hospital in the wee hours of Saturday.
The fire that broke out on the third floor of the hospital reduced medicines worth millions of rupees and the relevant record to ashes.
According to Children’s Hospital MD Professor Saleem, the fire broke out at 5:07am.
Around 20 rescue personnel took part in the rescue operation. Talking to Minute Mirror, a Rescue spokesperson told that the fire was so intense that it took them seven hours to douse the blaze.
Fortunately, no casualties were reported in the incident. However, the cause of the fire was yet to be ascertained.
The fire led to the closure of the Outpatient Department (OPD), trapping several patients and their relatives at the Emergency Department for hours.
A six-member committee of the Health Department has started an inquiry into the incident on the directives of Punjab Chief Minister Hamza Shehbaz. The committee will submit a report within 24 hours.
According to officials, action will be taken against those responsible after the inquiry report.
The incident came a day after Specialized Health Department sought data of medicines from five teaching hospitals, including Children’s Hospital, to develop a digital log of drugs.
