Leader of Opposition in the Sindh Assembly Haleem Adil Sheikh on Saturday slammed the high-ups of the provincial government for unabated political victimisation against opponents contesting the local bodies election in the first phase.
In a statement issued to the media, he said it was matter of shame that political opponents of Pakistan Peoples Party in Sindh were subjected to the worst victimisation through police officials. He said it was against the norms of democracy that candidates contesting elections against PPP were implicated in false and fabricated cases on flimsy charges. He said that in Tharparkar and other districts, Pakistan Tehreek-i-Insaf candidates were giving tough time to their opponents, but they were directly targeted through fake FIRs.
“It is the true face of the so-called champions of democracy that candidates of PTI and other parties were arrested, tortured and kidnapped in various areas of the province,” he said and asked PPP Chairman Bilawal Bhutto Zardari to take notice of such incidents.
Haleem said that skyrocketing rise in the prices of petroleum and other essential commodities had made the lives of poor people miserable. “It had becomes next to impossible for people in every nook and corner to earn bread and butter for their families,” he added. He also lashed out at the high-ups of the Sindh government for their alleged failure to provide safe drinking water to the people of the desert district.
He alleged that PPP rulers had embezzled billions in the name of providing safe drinking water. Health facilities and other basic amenities of life in backward areas like Tharparkar were completely nonexistent, he added. Haleem claimed that people of the country were ready to protest against “imported rulers” on the call of Imran Khan. He said that only people like Imran Khan and his team members, who were ousted from power through a deep-seated conspiracy, could put the country on the right track.
Haleem also slammed Sindh Minister for Local Government Syed Nasir Hussain Shah for his remarks against the PTI leadership. The PTI leader reiterated that there were life threats to his life as PPP leaders wanted him dead.
On Thursday, Haleem wrote a letter to Chief Justice of Pakistan Umar Ata Bandial highlighting a “grave threat” to his life, allegedly by the PPP leadership.
In his letter addressed to the Sindh High Court (SHC) chief justice as well, Sheikh said there were “immediate and serious threats” to his life and he wanted “immediate and appropriate” action from quarters concerned.
