The Islamabad High Court (IHC) has fixed the prohibited funding case before a larger bench and set the date for the hearing as August 18.
The acting chief justice of IHC has decided to constitute the larger bench. Pakistan Tehreek-e-Insaf’s (PTI) barristers Anwar Mansoor and Faisal Chaudhary appeared before the court.
The Election Commission of Pakistan (ECP) has already declared in its verdict that PTI received prohibited funding and had issued a notice to the party as well asking to explain why the funds should not be confiscated.
Anwar Mansoor maintained in the court that it was not necessary to disclose accounts for various reasons and they have already challenged ECP’s decision. Regarding the show cause notice, he appealed to the court to not take any action.
Mansoor also added that money was transferred from the main account to the provinces and that it was not necessary to disclose the details.
Justice Farooq replied that the matter as well would be taken by the larger bench. The court, while issuing directives for a larger bench, adjourned the hearing on August 18.
ECP’s three-member bench had said in its verdict on August 2 that PTI received prohibited funding. The commission had stated in a 68-page order that PTI had received funding from 34 individuals and 351 businesses. The commission’s verdict also highlighted 13 unknown accounts that were in violation of Article 17. It also declared that the nomination form-I submitted by PTI Chairman Imran Khan was false.
