Pakistan expects logical conclusion after FATF team visit: FO

Pakistan has expressed hope for good results following the Financial Action Task Force’s (FATF) technical team visit.

On Wednesday, the Foreign Office said that the recent successful on-site visit by the FATF team would result in a logical conclusion, by its removal from the ‘grey list’ next month.

A 15-member joint team from the FATF and its affiliate Asia Pacific Group visited Pakistan from August 29 to September 2 to assess the country’s adherence to a 34-point action plan it pledged when it was added to the list in June 2018.

The Foreign Ministry’s statement said that the FATF team had extensive discussions with Pakistani agencies.

In a statement, the Foreign Office stated that the conversations took place in a constructive and positive atmosphere.

It further stated that the purpose of the visit was to confirm Pakistan’s high-level commitment to and sustainability of reforms in the AML/CFT regime.

Pakistan is hoping for a “logical conclusion” to the discussion of the FATF team’s report in the ICRG (International Cooperation Review Group) and plenary sessions of the organization, which were planned to take place in Paris from October 18 to 22.

Pakistan says that by putting two extensive action plans into place, the country had achieved a “high degree of technical compliance” with FATF requirements and ensured a “high level of effectiveness”.
