Double riding of motorcycles banned in Islamabad, Karachi at New Year

At the arrival of the New Year double riding of motorcycles was banned for one night in Islamabad and Karachi amid concerns keeping in view the safety of citizens.

According to a notification issued by Deputy Commissioner Islamabad Irfan Nawaz Memon section 144 has been imposed in Islamabad and double riding has been banned.

Action will be taken under Section 144 for violation of double riding, the deputy commissioner said. The ban on double riding will be applicable from 6 pm on December 31 to January 1.

Similarly, according to a notification issued by Commissioner Karachi Muhammad Iqbal Memon double riding, display of weapons and aerial firing have been banned under Section 144 from the evening of December 31 to January 1.

DIG South Zone had written a letter to ban double riding, display of weapons and aerial firing for the safety of civilians. The DIG had said in the letter that the arrival of the New Year will be celebrated with enthusiasm across the city.

DIG had said that on that night a large number of youth from different areas of the city will go to the sea on cars and motorcycles due to which there will be traffic problems and citizens will have to face difficulties.

The notification stated that the Deputy Commissioner and Assistant Commissioner have been empowered to take action under the concerned SSPs against those violating Section 144 and violators will be booked at the respective police stations.
