Another ‘energy-saving’ plan

The government is again on the path of an energy-saving plan. Under the national energy-saving plan, all federal government entities will reduce their electricity consumption by 30%. All offices must avoid the usage of unnecessary electrical equipment. By limiting the operating hours of marriage halls, eateries, and markets, Rs62 billion will be saved. Electric fans that are inefficient and of poor quality will no longer be manufactured in factories from July 1. Non-standard light bulbs are also prohibited. According to the briefing, energy-saving changes are being adopted across the country, cement, clay, and glass structures have significant maintenance costs, and new building rules are being imposed. All wedding halls and hotels around the country will close at 10 p.m., and markets will close at 8 pm.

The energy-saving plan is about avoiding energy losses and national capital conservation. It should be remembered that a thorough plan was developed during the cabinet meeting on December 20, but the Power Division’s opinion in this regard was conditional. During this period, the objective was to reach a consensus with the provinces and numerous stakeholders, but given the existing state of tension, the cabinet decision was made with the perception that the Punjab, Khyber Pakhtunkhwa government, MQM, traders, and marriage hall groups were not consulted. The government claims that all parties have been brought into confidence.

Conical baffles have been made mandatory in geysers; conical baffles will be installed in one year, saving 92 billion rupees; street lights will be operated at 50%, saving four billion; and three billion dollars worth of fuel is used annually in motorcycles; e-bikes will be gradually introduced to reduce this consumption. It is available for free. Staying up late at night and commencing business or other activities late in the day results in the production of artificial energy, which is expensive. According to reports, no lights were turned on during the Federal Cabinet meeting on Tuesday, and all drapes were removed, allowing more sunshine to enter the room. It was also stated that the structures of our houses should be modified in order for the dwellings to remain bright. The federal government’s strategy to take advantage of daylight may be tough to accomplish, but it will grow easier with time to make ordinary living compatible with natural necessities. The fundamental goal is to gain the trust of all constituencies and provide them with opportunities in work, education, and other areas.
