Abdul Aleem Khan surveys landslide damage in Skardu, urges prompt action

Abdul Aleem Khan, the Federal Minister for Communications, Privatization & Investment Board, arrived in Skardu on Monday to assess the aftermath of landslides affecting the main highway connecting Gilgit and Skardu.

Accompanied by the Director General of Frontier Works Organization, Major General Abdul Sami, and Federal Secretary of Communications, Ali Sher Mehsud, Khan evaluated the current situation.

He stressed the need for heightened focus on the Gilgit-Skardu highway, emphasizing the importance of measures to prevent rock and mudslides and safeguard lives and property.

Khan instructed the Frontier Works Organization (FWO) to conduct thorough surveys of the affected highways using heavy machinery and take immediate action. He emphasized the importance of providing swift relief in case of any untoward incidents, prioritizing efficiency and effectiveness.

Additionally, Abdul Aleem Khan received updates from FWO Director General Maj. General Abdul Sami and Federal Secretary Communications Ali Sher Mehsud, assured continued efforts for the speedy restoration of highways in the Northern Areas.

They also pledged to deploy maximum machinery and manpower to areas prone to landslides to minimize inconvenience for the public.
