No negotiations with rioters; calls for accountability and action against anarchy, DG ISPR

The head of the military’s public relations department emphasized on Tuesday that there would be no dialogue with rioters or anarchists. He stated that the violent events of May 9 were not only an assault on the Pakistan Army but on the entire populace. Stressing the importance of maintaining justice, he insisted that those responsible for the incidents must be brought to justice.

During a press briefing, Major General Ahmed Sharif Chaudhry, the ISPR Director General, highlighted how the events of May 9 were witnessed by both civilians and the armed forces, noting how people were misled through false propaganda.

The ISPR asserted that individuals were given specific targets to carry out attacks, resulting in assaults on military installations nationwide within a short span. Following May 9, there was a noticeable distancing from anarchist groups, the ISPR claimed, suggesting a shift away from deceitful tactics.

General Chaudhry expressed concern over the manipulation of innocent children into violence, resulting in damage to the country’s army, loss of lives, and destruction of property. He advocated for the establishment of a judicial commission to investigate the incident thoroughly.

Additionally, he called for scrutiny of the attack on PTV and other related matters, suggesting a comprehensive inquiry into all relevant incidents. He emphasized that the events of May 9 aimed to sow discord between the people and the army but asserted that individuals with a conscience distanced themselves from such actions.

Warning against impunity, the ISPR chief stressed that failure to punish those responsible for the May 9 incidents would jeopardize the safety of lives and property. He underscored the importance of upholding national security, stating that the Constitution prohibits propaganda against the state.

Furthermore, General Chaudhry refuted allegations of army interference in the general elections, demanding evidence to support such claims. He reiterated the army’s commitment to truth and transparency, emphasizing the need for accountability within its ranks.

Addressing terrorism concerns, the ISPR chief highlighted Pakistan’s ongoing efforts to combat terrorism and maintain peace in the region. He pointed out evidence linking recent terrorist incidents to TTP operatives based in Afghanistan, emphasizing the need for collaborative efforts to counter terrorism.

Regarding foreign relations, he emphasized Pakistan’s commitment to preventing illegal activities along its borders and ensuring bilateral cooperation with neighboring countries. He also addressed the situation in Kashmir, accusing India of targeting killings and reaffirming Pakistan’s support for Kashmiri rights.

Overall, the ISPR Director General’s statements underscored the military’s stance on maintaining law and order, combating terrorism, and safeguarding national interests amidst regional challenges.
