Murad Ali of Khyber Pakhtunkhwa and Iljah Tariq of Balochistan, the current national junior champion, won the Men’s and Women’s Single championships, respectively, in the All Pakistan National Ranking Badminton Tournament on Friday at Abdul Wali Khan Sports Complex.
Murad Ali, the reigning national champion, dominated his rival Awais Zahid of Pakistan Wapda in one-sided sets, winning 21-12 and 21-16. Murad Ali performed excellently, leaving little space for Owais Zahid to respond.
In the Women’s Singles, Balochistan’s Iljah Tariq defeated Mahoor Shehzad, who was wounded during the final set and had to retire hurt. In the women’s singles final, Mahoor Shahzad won the first set comfortably with a score of 21-6, but she was injured in the second game and had to withdraw hurt with a score of 15-8. Mahoor slipped when taking a net short and had to leave the court due to injury, leaving Iljah Tariq as the victor.
Najam Al-Saqib of Khyber Pakhtunkhwa and Sarwat Fatima of Balochistan won the gold in the Boys and Girls U13 categories, respectively. Najam Al-Saqib of Balochistan defeated Muhammad Suleiman of Islamabad 21-13 and 21-11 in the boys U-13 final, while Sarwat Fatima of Balochistan defeated Khakla Zaman of Khyber Pakhtunkhwa 21-1 and 21-2 in the ladies U13 singles final.
Raja Muhammad Hasnain (PB) and Raja Zulqarnain Haider (Wapda) defeated Irfan Saeed and Azeem Sarwar (Wapda) 21-18, 21-16 in the men’s doubles. In the first semi-final, Raja Hassnain and Raja Haider defeated Abuzar Rasheed and Amir Saeed by 2-0, 21-17 and 21-16; in the second semi-final, Irfan Saeed and Azeem Sarwar defeated Wapda’s Awais Zahid and Muhammad Ali Larosh by 2-1, 18-21, 21-17, and 21-19.
Palwasha Bashir (Sindh) and Saima Waqas (Wapda) won the Women’s doubles 21-13, 21-13 over Mahoor Shahzad and Ghazala Siddique (Wapda).
In the men’s doubles final, Raja Muhammad Hasnain and Raja Zulqarnain Haider defeated Irfan Saeed and Azeem Sarwar 21-18, 21-16 in straight games. Palwasha Bashir and Saima Waqas defeated Mahoor Shahzad and Ghazala Siddique in the Women Doubles with a score of 21-13, 21-13.
