Arrest warrants for 14 for skipping May 9 cases trial

On Friday, an anti-terrorism court (ATC) issued bailable arrest warrants for 14 suspects, who were on bail, for failing to attend trial proceedings related to two cases concerning the May 9 riots.

Judge Arshad Javed instructed the police to ensure the presence of nine suspects involved in the Jinnah House attack case and five others in the Askari Tower case by May 15.

The judge also mandated the suspects to provide new bail bonds before their court appearance.

Among the suspects are Attaur Rehman, Abdul Rehman, Ikramullah, Abdul Hadi, Amanullah, Ali Hassan, Shahbaz Siddique, Rubina Rizwan, Irfan Jamil, Saeed Shah, Mohsin Gull Agha, and Muhammad Parvez.

In another development, the ATC granted interim pre-arrest bail to former Pakistan Tehreek-i-Insaf leaders Jamshed Iqbal Cheema and his wife Musarrat Iqbal Cheema in seven additional cases linked to the May 9 riots. They were directed to participate in the investigation.

Judge Arshad Javed approved the bail petitions of the couple until May 21, contingent upon each furnishing surety bonds worth Rs100,000.

The bail applications were filed in connection with attacks on Askari Tower, Shadman police station, and party offices of the PML-N, among others.

The couple, previously declared proclaimed offenders in several May 9 riot cases, surrendered before the court in February.
