ASI martyred, two dacoits killed during police encounter

An assistant sub-inspector (ASI) was martyred on Saturday during a police encounter in Faisalabad’s Madina Town area, while the police firing killed two dacoits and left one injured.

The martyred ASI Hamid Naseer was part of the patrolling police and was buried with honours after funeral prayers.

According to details, three dacoits looted the house of ASI Hamid at a patrol post near W Block Street No. 9, Madina Town police station. Upon hearing about it from his family, the cop rushed home from his duty just when the dacoits were leaving the scene. ASI Hamid had a confrontation with the three dacoits. Madina Town SHO Syed Iram Raza Shah also reached the spot and joined the police encounter.

During the 20-minute police encounter, the ASI and three dacoits were injured and were rushed to a nearby hospital by Rescue 1122. There, ASI Hamid and two dacoits – Sajjad and Tanveer – succumbed to their injuries while Shabir, an accomplice of the dacoits, was arrested with injuries.

The three bodies were shifted to Allied Hospital for autopsy. According to police sources, ASI Hamid confronted the dacoits for 15 minutes before reaching the Madina Town police contingent. Police also seized weapons and a motorcycle from the slain robbers.

SHO Syed Iram Raza Shah said that dacoit Tanveer killed in the encounter had a record of 44 cases of robbery, attempted murder and police encounter. His brother Sajjad had a record of 25 cases, whereas the injured dacoit Shabbir was also wanted in several cases.

SSP Patrolling Police Mirza Anjum Kamal, while talking to media, said that assistant sub-inspector sacrificed his life while fighting hardened criminals involved in various criminal incidents. The martyred ASI fought valiantly and killed two accused on the spot, he added.
