Audio leaks are only to hide economic failures: Sheikh Rashid

Former interior minister Sheikh Rashid claimed on Friday that a contentious audio leak was purposefully disseminated to draw attention away from the nation’s economic woes.

The AML chairman made the statement a day after purported audio of Bushra Bibi, the wife of former prime minister Imran Khan, and senior leader of the PTI Zulfi Bukhari was leaked.

In the audio, the two allegedly discuss the possibility of selling a watch that Khan received while serving as prime minister.

Rashid issued a warning that the country’s problems would only become worse since the PDM government was unable to govern it.

The only way to address the political and economic uncertainty, he claimed, was to hold early elections.

“How can a poor person survive when onions and potatoes are 300 and 200 rupees per kilogram, respectively, across the nation?” In addition, he predicted a national food crisis around the corner.

The PDM has one final opportunity to give up in front of the public because sticking to the government could be very costly, he warned.

Rashid said that the newly established joint investigative team (JIT) in the murder of journalist Arshad Sharif had been charged with the duty of producing concrete findings.
