Australian PM honors heroic Pakistani security guard killed in Sydney stabbing attack

Australian Prime Minister Anthony Albanese praised Faraz Tahir, a Pakistani security guard who tragically lost his life while attempting to thwart a mass stabbing attack in Sydney.

Albanese hailed Tahir as a hero during a funeral attended by hundreds, stating that Tahir’s brave actions undoubtedly saved lives that day.

The ceremony, held at the Baitul Huda mosque, was attended by fellow security guard Muhammad Taha, who was injured in the incident. Taha, speaking from a wheelchair, recounted his last moments with Tahir as they rushed towards danger to help others.

Tahir, a refugee from Pakistan and member of the Ahmadiyya Muslim community of Australia, was remembered fondly by his brother Mudasar Bashir, who expressed disbelief at his loss but pride in his selfless actions.

The attack, carried out by Joel Cauchi, claimed the lives of Tahir and five other victims before Cauchi was fatally shot by police.
