Babar Azam, Pakistan cricket star has officially announced his decision to step down from the captaincy role in all formats of the game.

The announcement was made through a heartfelt social media post where Azam reflected on his journey since taking on the leadership mantle in 2019.

“I vividly remember the moment when I received the call from PCB to lead Pakistan in 2019. Over the past four years, I’ve experienced many highs and lows on and off the field, but I wholeheartedly and passionately aimed to maintain Pakistan’s pride and respect in the cricket world,” Babar Azam shared in his social media statement.

The captain acknowledged the collective efforts of players, coaches, and management that led Pakistan to achieve the number 1 spot in the white-ball format. He expressed gratitude to the passionate cricket fans for their unwavering support throughout this journey.

“Today, I am stepping down as the captain of Pakistan in all formats. It’s a difficult decision but I feel it is the right time for this call,” Azam continued in his announcement.

Despite relinquishing the captaincy, Babar Azam affirmed his commitment to representing Pakistan as a player in all three formats.

He also pledged his ongoing support to the new captain and the team, offering his experience and dedication to aid in the team’s success.

“I want to express my sincere thanks to the Pakistan Cricket Board for entrusting me with this significant responsibility. Pakistan Zindabad,” concluded Azam in his social media post.
