Barrister Gohar Khan of the PTI held a press conference in Islamabad, where he addressed the recent joint session of Parliament.
During the conference, Khan orchestrated a symbolic 21-gun protest salute aimed at former President Asif Ali Zardari’s speech, compelling Zardari to prematurely conclude his address. Khan asserted that Zardari’s presidency is illegitimate, contending that both the president’s cabinet and the prime minister’s office lack legal standing.
In his remarks to the media following the parliamentary session, PTI Chairman emphasized the party’s commitment to operating within the confines of the constitution and the law, despite the prevailing political tensions.
Meanwhile, opposition leader Umar Ayub refuted claims of factionalism within the PTI, stating unequivocally that there is no internal division within the party ranks.
Addressing the media, Ayub underscored the constitutional role of the president as the representative of the Republic under Article 41, highlighting discrepancies in Zardari’s tenure as the head of the People’s Party. Ayub criticized Zardari for failing to resign from his position as president, violating established norms of parliamentary procedure. He emphasized the need for adherence to legal frameworks, particularly in light of the country’s ongoing political turmoil.
With the president having delegated powers to the parliament, Ayub urged lawmakers to exercise their authority judiciously to navigate the nation out of its current political crisis.
