Bernard Hill, actor in Titanic and Lord of the Rings, passes away

Actor Bernard Hill, acclaimed for his iconic roles in Titanic and Lord of the Rings, passes away at 79.

Hill portrayed Captain Edward Smith in the 1997 Oscar-winning film and King Théoden in the Lord of the Rings trilogy.

His breakout performance occurred in the 1982 BBC TV drama Boys from the Blackstuff, where he embodied Yosser Hughes, a character grappling with unemployment in Liverpool.

His agent, Lou Coulson, confirmed his passing early on Sunday morning.

Alan Bleasdale, the writer of Boys from the Blackstuff, described Hill’s death as “a significant loss and a surprise,” lauding his captivating portrayal as Yosser Hughes.

Bleasdale expressed admiration for Hill’s commitment to his roles and his enduring legacy.
