Case of clash between Lahore police, lawyers filed, PBC on strike today

A legal and law enforcement confrontation erupted outside the Lahore High Court (LHC), as a clash between police officers and lawyers resulted in a case being lodged in the GPO Chowk area of Lahore.

According to reports, Inspector Javed filed a complaint leading to the registration of a case at the old Anarkali police station. The complaint outlines accusations including road obstruction, physical assault, and interference with governmental affairs.

The First Information Report (FIR) documented a significant altercation where a sizable group of lawyers allegedly assaulted police personnel, resulting in injuries to five officers, including Station House Officers (SHOs) from New Anarkali and Ichhra.

The escalation stemmed from a rally organized by the Lahore Bar Association on May 8th, commencing around 1:00 pm outside the LHC. The rally was staged in protest against the transfer of judicial proceedings and the handling of terrorism-related cases involving lawyers.

In a bid to assert their demands, lawyers attempted to breach the premises of the LHC, triggering a confrontation with law enforcement. The ensuing clash prompted police intervention, including baton charges and tear gas dispersal, resulting in the apprehension of approximately 30 lawyers.

Subsequently, the Pakistan Bar Council (PBC) responded by declaring a nationwide strike in solidarity with the legal fraternity.
