China calls for heightened counter-terrorism efforts in Pakistan following Bisham attack

China is urging Pakistan to intensify its efforts in counter-terrorism following the Bisham attack, where five Chinese nationals working on the Dasu dam project were killed.

Ambassador of China to Pakistan Jiang Zaidong emphasized the need for every possible measure to ensure the protection and security of Chinese citizens, projects, and institutions in Pakistan during an interview with Shaukat Piracha on his show Rubaroo aired on Aaj News.

In addition to the five Chinese citizens, one Pakistani national, the driver, was also killed when a suicide bomber targeted the bus transporting staff of the Dasu dam project in Bisham, Shangla district, on March 26.

Notably, Dasu has faced attacks in the past, including a blast on a bus in 2021 that claimed the lives of 13 individuals, including nine Chinese nationals.

Discussing security, Ambassador Zaidong highlighted that national security is essential for safeguarding the interests of the people and fostering prosperity and welfare.

He emphasized that ensuring the security of individuals forms the foundation of comprehensive national security. Moreover, he reiterated that Chinese nationals are in Pakistan to strengthen friendly relations between the two countries and contribute to national security.

Expressing deep sorrow, grief, and anger over the attack, the ambassador stressed the importance of prioritizing the lives of people and their safety in responding to such incidents.

He expressed hope that Pakistan would promptly conduct an investigation into the incident and impose strict punishment on those responsible.

Furthermore, Ambassador Zaidong called for increased efforts in counter-terrorism and opposition against terrorists to create a safe environment conducive to the development of joint societies and strategic cooperation between China and Pakistan.
