Coalition of Arab nations urges UNSC to back Palestine’s full UN membership bid

A joint statement from Arab UN member states calls on fellow Security Council members to endorse Palestine’s quest for full UN membership, citing the urgency to rectify historical injustices and uphold the Palestinian people’s rights to self-determination, sovereignty, and statehood.

The statement urges Council members not to obstruct this crucial initiative, emphasizing that failure to do so would constitute a severe disregard for the UN Charter’s principles and international law.

While over two-thirds of UN General Assembly member states already recognize Palestinian statehood, the application requires UNSC approval, where permanent members, including the US, hold veto power over resolutions.
