commissioner to find alternative housing of Beggar Act suspects

Adiala Jail superintendent asks chief The superintendent of Adiala Jail in Rawalpindi has asked the new Chief Commissioner of Islamabad, Muhammad Ali Randhawa, to stop sending more suspects to their jail under the Beggar Act.

In a letter to the chief commissioner, the superintendent explained the situation.

Adiala Jail is designed to hold 2,174 inmates, but it currently has about 7,000 prisoners.

“Many of the suspects sent to jail under the Beggar Act are disabled, injured, drug addicts, or involved in prostitution,” the superintendent said. “This creates challenges for the jail staff when managing these inmates.”

He asked the chief commissioner to find other places to house these suspects. He also urged the completion of the district jail in Islamabad, emphasizing that it’s crucial for reducing the overcrowding at Adiala Jail.
