Contempt case: Imran Khan submits another affidavit in IHC

Pakistan Tehreek-e-Insaf (PTI) Chairman Imran Khan has submitted his third affidavit in the contempt of court case against him in the Islamabad High Court (IHC).

The former prime minister is facing indictment in the contempt of court case for threatening an Additional and Sessions Judge Zeba Chaudhry after he had passed a “threatening” statement against the woman judge in a rally at F-9 Park on August 20, Islamabad.

Imran Khan, in the latest affidavit, has vowed to comply with his previous statement that he had given before the IHC during the last hearing of the case on September 22.

Imran had said that he was ready to apologize if the judges thought of him as crossing a red line. He had also said that his intention was not to threaten the judge as taking action meant legal action.

During the previous hearing, the IHC had decided not to frame charges in the contempt of court case against former prime minister. The proceedings had been deferred by the IHC after Imran had showed willingness to the woman judge.

He had stated that he was willing to go to the Sessions Judge Zeba Chaudhry personally to apologize. He had also said that anything like this would not be repeated by him in the future.

IHC CJ Justice Minallah had noted that it would not be appropriate to conduct contempt proceedings directing Imran to submit an affidavit in the light of his statement.

It is also pertinent to note that Imran Khan had gone to the court of the Sessions Judge Zeba Chaudhry on Friday for apology but the judge being on leave was not present in her chambers.

Imran had told the court reader that he had come to apologize asking the reader to stay witness for his appearance in her court.
