Crackdown on underage sale of tobacco and cigarettes

Peshawar-Law enforcement in Peshawar has initiated a crackdown on retailers selling tobacco and cigarettes to individuals under the age of 18. Police authorities stress that selling these products to minors is illegal and those violating the law will face penalties including a three month imprisonment and a fine of one hundred thousand rupees.

According to police sources, the strict enforcement comes in response to the unlawful sale of cigarettes and tobacco to individuals below the legal age. The imposed penalties for offenders aim to deter shopkeepers from engaging in such practices that put the health and well-being of underage individuals at risk.

In the initial phase of this initiative, a pilot project has been launched in Swat and following its success. Similar actions are planned for other districts within the province. Police officials emphasize the importance of curbing the sale of these products to minors highlighting the negative impact on their health and overall well-being.

The penalties outlined for first-time offenders involve a fine of five thousand rupees while repeat offenders will face a three-month imprisonment and a fine of one hundred thousand rupees. This stern approach aims to ensure the effective implementation of the law safeguarding the youth from the harmful effects of tobacco and cigarette consumption.
