Dissolving assembles decided only date announcement remains, Speaker

Punjab Assembly Speaker Sibtain Khan has said that the decision to dissolve assemblies has been made and only the announcement of the date remained.

He said that Governor could ask the Speaker of the assembly to take a vote of confidence from the chief minister. He said that according to the constitution if the session of the assembly was going on then-governor could not call a special session.

Talking to a TV channel on a talk show he said that the Punjab assembly session was going on and therefore Governor could not call for a new session. He said that vote of no confidence required a special assembly session.

Speaker said that the ongoing session of the Punjab assembly was the prerogative of the speaker and the session will continue till the agenda. He said that the opposition could file no confidence in the ongoing session.

Sibtain said that after the opposition files the no-confidence then assembly secretary will include that in the agenda after which the attendance of 74 members will be counted. He said that if Chief Minister will send the summary to dissolve the assembly to Governor then he will have to decide within 48 hours and if Governor will not decide in that time then the summary will stand accepted.

He also said that the opposition did not have the majority for a vote of no confidence while there was no chance of Governor Rule as long as the assembly was in session.

He further told that Pakistan Tehreek-e-Insaf (PTI) Chairman Imran khan has called meetings of parliamentary parties of its lawmakers on Friday and Saturday. He also told that CM Punjab Chaudhry Pervaiz Elahi and CM Khyber Pakhtunkhwa Mehmood Khan were ready to dissolve assemblies and have been waiting for the call of Imran Khan.
