Dr. Ahmar Sohail Basra takes charge as station director of Radio Pakistan Lahore

Dr. Ahmar Sohail Basra has officially assumed the position of Station Director at Radio Pakistan Lahore. Dr. Basra’s educational background includes a graduation from FC College (now a chartered university) Lahore, majoring in Communication and Economics. Subsequently, he obtained his Master’s degree in Mass Communication from the University of Punjab, followed by MPhil and PhD degrees in media studies, where his research thesis focused on Screenplay Writing. Alongside his academic pursuits, Dr. Basra serves as an Adjunct Faculty member, delivering lectures in esteemed universities across the country.

Dr. Basra’s professional journey at Radio Pakistan began in 2002, initially serving in Lahore before transitioning to World Service Islamabad in 2003. Notably, from 2004 to 2014, he excelled as a Senior Producer at Radio Pakistan Lahore, showcasing his talent through renowned programs such as “Sohni Dharti” and “Punjabi Darbar.” Throughout his tenure, he demonstrated his capabilities in managing current affairs and drama sections.

In subsequent years, Dr. Basra held various managerial positions, including Program Manager in Islamabad (2014), Station Director at Gilgit-Baltistan, and later at Skardu Station (2022-2024). His contributions to radio drama were acknowledged with awards such as Best Producer and Best Sound Effects at the All Pakistan Radio Drama Festival for his production “Haqq Aur Hosla.” Furthermore, his drama “Rahe Rast” secured the first prize at the ISPR Drama Festival, and he was nominated for the Special Jury Prize at the Asia Pacific Broadcasting Union Drama Festival.

In his statement, Dr. Basra expressed his commitment to driving Radio Pakistan Lahore forward under the guidance of Director General Saeed Ahmed Sheikh and Director Programs Raheela Tasneem. He stated their collective efforts to address modern-day challenges and contribute to Pakistan’s development. Dr. Basra pledged to continue striving for the revival and advancement of radio broadcasting in the country.
