ECP rejects MQM’s plea for local body elections in Sindh

The Election Commission of Pakistan (ECP) has rejected Muttahida Qaumi Movement-Pakistan MQM’s request for local body elections in Karachi and Hyderabad.

The MQM-P had contested the ECP’s decision to potentially utilize two different electoral rolls in the local government elections at the same time.

A three-member bench headed by Chief Election Commissioner Sikandar Sultan gave the verdict in which the Election Commission accepted the petition of Jamaat-e-Islami regarding the local body elections.

The Election Commission of Pakistan (ECP) announced that local body elections in Karachi and Hyderabad will be held on January 15 as per schedule.

In the Election Commission, the MQM was of the view that dual voter lists are being used in the elections so the local body elections should be held on the new voter list.

The Election Commission of Pakistan (ECP) rejected the plea and ordered that local body elections in Karachi and Hyderabad should be held on January 15.
