Egyptian astronomers reveal Eid al-Adha dates for Arab countries

Egypt’s Marhan Astronomy Institute has unveiled significant insights into the timing of Eid al-Adha across Arab nations.

According to Dr. Taha Rabah, head of the National Institute for Astronomical and Geophysical Research in Egypt, the month of Dhul-Qadah in the current Hijri year 1445 will commence astronomically from May 9. Dhul-Qadah is anticipated to span 29 days.

Dr. Rabah further detailed that the moon of Zul-Qada is expected to rise on May 8, Wednesday, Shawwal 29, at 5:23 am local time in Cairo. Following this, the new crescent will be visible for 31 minutes after sunset in Makkah and 38 minutes in Cairo. In other Egyptian governorates, it will be visible for 32 to 40 minutes.

Across Arab and Islamic capitals and cities, the new crescent is projected to remain visible from 8 to 48 minutes after sunset on the same day.

Moreover, the Egyptian Astronomy Institute’s statement disclosed that the month of Dhul-Hijjah 1445 Hijri will commence on June 7, 2024. Arafat Day is slated for June 15, with Eid-ul-Adha following on June 16, marking an important event in the Islamic calendar for the year 1445 Hijri.
