Eiffel Tower loses it’s charm before Olympics

The Eiffel Tower is poised to play a central role in the upcoming Paris Olympics, with plans for events like beach volleyball and the opening ceremony set against its iconic backdrop. However, the area surrounding the monument has become a focal point for concerns about cleanliness and crime in the city.

Residents and visitors alike have raised complaints about the deteriorating condition of the Champ-de-Mars park, citing issues such as littering, public urination, and illegal vendors. Additionally, incidents of street crime, including alleged rapes, have sparked alarm among locals.

Critics, including opposition politicians, attribute these problems to the current mayor, Anne Hidalgo, while others acknowledge broader challenges facing the city. Efforts to address these issues include increased police presence and beautification efforts ahead of the Olympics.

Despite the challenges, city officials remain optimistic about Paris’s ability to showcase itself positively during the Games, expressing confidence in its readiness to welcome visitors from around the world.
