Election Commission raises concerns over PTI’s intra-party elections, issues notice

The Election Commission of Pakistan (ECP) has raised objections to the new intra-party elections conducted by the Pakistan Tehreek-e-Insaaf (PTI), issuing a notice for April 30th to address the matter.

This notice marks the third instance of objection from the ECP regarding PTI’s intra-party elections. Sources within the Election Commission reveal that the Political Finance Wing has directed PTI to appear before them on April 30th to address the concerns raised.

The PTI had initially submitted details of the intra-party elections to the Election Commission on March 4th. However, the ECP subsequently nullified PTI’s intra-party elections, leading to the withdrawal of the party’s election symbol.

In response, PTI announced plans to hold new intra-party elections, with Barrister Gohar Ali Khan elected unopposed as PTI Chairman and Umar Ayub Khan unopposed as Secretary General during the March 3rd announcement. Despite these developments, the Election Commission has continued to express reservations regarding PTI’s electoral processes.

The issuance of this notice underscores the ongoing scrutiny and challenges surrounding PTI’s intra-party elections. The Election Commission’s insistence on addressing these concerns reflects its commitment to upholding transparency and fairness in electoral practices.

PTI, as a prominent political entity, is expected to cooperate fully with the Election Commission to ensure compliance with legal and procedural requirements.
