Elon Musk’s comments could lead to India’s permanent UNSC membership

Elon Musk’s recent remarks on social media have drawn attention to India’s absence from a permanent seat in the UN Security Council (UNSC).

Musk, who is scheduled to visit India this month, expressed surprise at India’s exclusion, given its status as the world’s most populous country. He called for a revision of UN bodies, suggesting that powerful nations are reluctant to relinquish their influence.

The US State Department echoed this sentiment during a press conference, emphasizing the need for reform within the UN, including the UNSC.

Currently, the UNSC consists of five permanent members with veto power and ten non-permanent members.

Despite India’s longstanding efforts to secure a permanent seat, it has faced challenges in achieving this goal.

However, there is growing support from various countries for India’s inclusion in the group of permanent members, signaling potential progress in UN reform efforts.
