Fears of ‘cyber-attack’ as FBR website breaks down

Revenue authority faces 71,000 cyber-attacks every month according to finance minister

The Federal Board of Revenue (FBR) website was temporarily inaccessible earlier today, leading to rumours of a ‘cyber-attack’.

Following the website breakdown, no reason was given for its non-functionality by the FBR. The inaccessibility of the website gave rise to reports of a ‘cyber-attack’, both on TV and social media.

The FBR website faced a cyber-attack in August, which was a source of inconvenience for many users, specifically potential taxpayers aiming to meet the tax deadline of September 30.

It is also pertinent to mention that recently, the finance minister claimed in the lower house of the parliament that the revenue organization faced 71,000 cyber-attacks every month. The reason, as stated by the minister, was that with every attack, the tools and methods available to the hackers became more sophisticated.

In today’s case of breakdown, the FBR provided an alternative link to users. The FBR website has been fully restored till the filing of this report.
