Five killed as strong wind and heavy rains lash Lahore

Pre-monsoon rain disrupted electricity distribution, several feeders of LESCO tripped

At least five people killed as a result of strong wind followed by heavy rains in Lahore.

According to reports, the incident occurred in Nishtar Colony area near Ferozepur road Lahore. Family of Lahore’s citizen Shabbir was sleeping at night when a wall adjoining the neighbor’s house collapsed due to heavy rainfall. Fifty-two years old Shabbir, his 45-year- old wife Musarrat, 19-year-old son Sharjeel, 17-year-old daughter Amna and 12-year-old Nofel were buried under the rubble.

All of the injured were rescued and shifted to Bilal hospital. However, they couldn’t survive. Four died before reaching the hospital while one injured also passed away later.

SP Iqbal Town Amara Shirazi visited the hospital as well. She expressed grief over the loss of precious lives.

The rain due to pre-monsoon system also disrupted complete electricity distribution of LESCO in the city. Several feeders of LESCO were tripped. Power outages in Mustafa Town, Education Town, Northern Lahore, and Misri Shah Areas for four to five hours have been reported. Flight operations at Allama Iqbal International Airport were briefly suspended. Some flights were diverted to other cities.
