Four arrested following transgender community’s confrontation with Gujrat police station

In Gujrat, four individuals, including three from the transgender community, have been apprehended for their involvement in an altercation at a local police station.

The incident occurred at the Saddar Police Station in Kharian tehsil of Gujrat district, where members of the transgender community, reportedly aggrieved by perceived mistreatment by law enforcement, stormed the premises on Sunday.

Allegedly, the confrontation stemmed from claims of torture and unlawful detention by police officers, made by some transgender individuals who were returning home after attending an event late at night. Police attempted a body search, leading to a confrontation and their subsequent transfer to the police station.

Upon hearing of the situation, a group of transgender individuals, led by their spokesperson, encircled the police station and engaged in vandalism, hurling stones and causing property damage. Video footage captured the aggressive actions, including the removal of furniture and the forceful expulsion of a police official from the station.
