FM Bilawal stresses trade over aid in meeting with US state secretary

Pakistan urges unity to deal with food security challenges

Foreign Minister Bilawal Bhutto-Zardari said he stressed to US Secretary of State Antony Blinken in a meeting that Pakistan favors trade rather than receiving aid.

FM Bilawal Bhutto is in New York currently on a two-day official visit to the US. He has met with United Nations Secretary General Antonio Guterres and other international leaders.

Bilawal reached New York a day ago and met with US Secretary of State Antony Blinken at the United Nations Headquarters. He then later attended the ministerial meeting on the ‘Global Food Security Call to Action’.

Speaking with a local media outlet, Bilawal Bhutto said it was a matter of pride for him to represent the country at the UN.

He went on to comment regarding his participation in the food security meeting and said, “Food security and water crisis are major problems faced by the country.”

Speaking about the meeting with the US Secretary of State, FM Bilawal said that he had stressed that Pakistan emphasized trade over receiving aid and that he had received an encouraging response from him.

“We want to see growing ties between businessmen, entrepreneurs and business communities of both countries, so it can benefit our economy,” he added.
