Lahore Captial City Police Officer (CCPO) Ghulam Mehmood Dogar has said that a forensic branch on the same lines as Legal Branch will be set up in Punjab province soon.

CCPO Dogar made these revelations while attending a workshop organized by the University of Health Sciences (UHS) Forensic Sciences’ Department for training the police officers on forensic procedures.

In his comments to Minute Mirror CCPO Dogar said, “An agreement will be signed between Police and the UHS for this purpose. Punjab Police has the highest arrest and recovery rate but despite arresting 70 percent of the accused, only three percent are convicted.”

He further said, “Our investigative officers are unable to present evidence effectively in the court.”

The Lahore CCPO added that after this workshop, the officers will be able to understand the forensic reports and present them in court in a better way.

Under the aforementioned training, police officers will be trained in DNA analysis and serology reports.

The workshop will continue till October 8. The moderator of the training session was Dr. Allah Rakha, the head of the UHS Forensic Sciences Department. Police officials with the ranks of DSP and inspector were eligible for this training.

While talking to Minute Mirror, UHS Vice Chancellor Professor Dr. Javed Akram said, “Punjab Police will be trained to understand technical forensic reports. If the resources are scarce, agencies should work together. Doctors and police should have a close relationship as both of them save lives.”

Meanwhile, DIG Investigation Shariq Jamal said that in today’s era, the pressure on the police was increasing. “Through these kinds of workshops, the efficiency of the police with regard to forensic sciences will increase,” he added.
