Gippy Grewal, the renowned Indian Punjabi actor-singer, reminisced about his encounter with the late musician Amar Singh Chamkila during a recent interview.
Discussing Imtiaz Ali’s upcoming biopic on Chamkila, Grewal praised Ali’s meticulous casting choices.
He recalled his first interaction with Chamkila at an akhada, where the singer performed his initial devotional song ‘Baba Tera Nankana’.
Grewal also admitted to singing Chamkila’s songs live on stage, a practice common among Punjabi singers.
The biopic, starring Diljit Dosanjh and Parineeti Chopra, has garnered critical acclaim for its direction, performances, and soundtrack composed by A.R. Rahman.
