Google’s decision to discontinue VPN service

California: Technology giant Google has decided to discontinue the VPN feature in its Google One service.

According to emails presented to Android Authority, the feature introduced in October 2020 will be discontinued although it’s unclear when this will take effect.

The VPN subscription in Google One is available for $1.99 per month on Android, iOS, Mac and Windows.

The company informed 9to5Google that the reason for discontinuing the service is low usage citing that it is offered as part of three in Google Fi and Pixel devices by Google.

Google’s VPN in Google One is the latest product to be thrown into Google’s famous graveyard.

It is worth noting that a few weeks ago, Google Cloud Storage service announced crossing the milestone of 100 million subscribers.

Google stated in its email that VPN was being phased out so that attention could be focused on the most popular features which are related to security and privacy included in Google One through the integration of Google Fi.
