Despite official mandates, the provincial governments of Punjab and Khyber Pakhtunkhwa have struggled to ensure the sale of ‘Roti’ and ‘Naan’ at prescribed rates.
Media reports indicate that tandoor owners continue to set prices for these staple foods at their discretion, circumventing official regulations. This lack of oversight has sparked frustration among the populace, as consumers are left to contend with inflated prices beyond their control.
According to testimonies gathered by a private news channel, individuals lamented the unchecked pricing practices of tandoor owners, who dictate the cost of ‘Roti’ and ‘Naan’ without adherence to government-imposed rates.
This discrepancy between official mandates and market realities underscores the failure of regulatory mechanisms to uphold consumer interests and ensure affordability.
Additionally, concerns have been raised regarding the soaring prices of essential commodities, such as chicken. Despite government stipulations setting the price of chicken at Rs651 per kilogram, reports indicate that consumers are being charged exorbitant rates, reaching up to Rs800 per kilogram.
