Grant for lawyers’ welfare raised to Rs1 billion

Punjab Chief Minister Maryam Nawaz announced on Saturday an increase in grants to Rs1 billion for the welfare of lawyers. She made this announcement during a meeting with members of the Bar Councils’ apex bodies, where Federal Law Minister Azam Nazir Tarar and Ahsan Bhoon were also present.

Maryam Nawaz also promised to establish a special hall and day care center for women lawyers within the Bar Council.

During the meeting, the Chief Minister said deep sorrow over the recent murder of two lawyers in Attock. Acting swiftly on her directives, the police apprehended the suspect immediately.

She said that the accused be prosecuted in a special court under the Bar Council and Lawyers Protection Act, with oversight from the Law Minister.

Maryam Nawaz extended condolences to the Bar Council officials, stating the government’s responsibility to ensure the protection of the legal community.

She accepted an invitation to visit the Punjab Bar Council and expressed interest in visiting the Presidents of the Bahawalpur and Multan Bar associations.

she presented a grant of Rs50 million to the Punjab Bar Council, and Rs10 million each to the Bahawalpur and Multan High Court Bars.

The meeting concluded with agreements to restore healthcare facilities for lawyers in government hospitals and to strengthen collaboration between the provincial government and the legal community.

Maryam Nawaz assured the bar delegation of the government’s support to solve the problems of lawyers and appreciated the efforts of lawyers to advance the collective goal of a fair and effective legal system in Punjab.

Speaking on this occasion, Chief Minister Punjab said that the efforts of the lawyers’ community for the supremacy of law are commendable.

They will fully support to ensure the rule of law and equal access to justice for every individual.

The Chief Minister of Punjab further said that the government will continue to perform administrative responsibilities to increase the efficiency of the judicial system and deliver justice promptly.
