HIV cases increasing rapidly in Islamabad: Report

Islamabad has reported an alarming increase in the cases of Human Immunodeficiency Virus HIV.

According to Federal Ministry of Health officials, 519 HIV-positive cases were reported between January and October.

As per officials, the majority of the new cases are reported in young homosexual males and transgender people.

According to authorities, young gay males in Islamabad had been rapidly contracting HIV for some time.

Additionally, it stated that a new polyclinic HIV treatment facility in Islamabad is under construction to respond to the rising patient population.

Dr. Naila Bashir, director of the PIMS HIV Treatment Center stated that More than 4500 HIV-positive individuals have been registered at PIMS during the Covid era.

She also stated that drug usage is contributing to the fast spread of HIV.

As per National Aids Control Program, only in the current year 496, new HIV cases had been registered in the capital.

According to the National AIDS Control Program, urgent steps are being taken to stop the spread of HIV.
