Pakistan Tehreek-e-Insaf Chairman Imran Khan has claimed that his Chief of Staff Shahbaz Gill was sexually abused in police custody, and that he would bring perpetrators to justice.

In a tweet today, Imran Khan said that Shahbaz Gill was physically and mentally tortured, including sexual abuse. He stated that Gill was humiliated to break him down.

He added that Islamabad police had stated that it did not torture Gill, and questioned if that was the case, then who tortured him. He said that they would leave no stone unturned to bring perpetrators to justice.

In a press conference earlier on Friday, Babar Awan, former special assistant to ex-prime minister Imran Khan announced that Imran Khan would lead a rally for Gill’s release.

Awan said that the party was united when it came to Gill.

He also criticized the government and police for “custodian torture [sic]”.

He further said that politicians had also been arrested but nobody had been treated in such a manner.

Earlier on Friday, a district and sessions court of Islamabad had directed the Islamabad police to shift Shahbaz Gill to Pakistan Institute of Medical Sciences (PIMS) for another medical examination, suspending the handing over of the Pakistan Tehreek-e-Insaf (PTI) leader to police till Monday.
