Imran Khan writes to Chief Justice Qazi, urging action for PTI’s cause

Imprisoned founding chairman of Pakistan Tehreek-e-Insaf (PTI), Imran Khan, penned a letter to Chief Justice of Pakistan (CJP) Qazi Faez Isa, highlighting seven crucial issues that he deemed in need of urgent attention from the highest court and the chief judge to uphold the rule of law and constitutional supremacy in the nation.

In his missive, the former prime minister urged the CJP to take cognizance of several matters, including the National Accountability Bureau’s exoneration of ex-PM Nawaz Sharif in the Toshakhana case, the Bahawalnagar incident, a letter from six high court judges detailing coercion and harassment, a petition for an independent probe into the May 9 events, allegations of election rigging raised by the Commissioner Rawalpindi, petitions regarding irregularities in the February 8 general elections, and the allocation of reserved seats in the national and provincial assemblies.

Imran emphasized that these issues either were already under judicial consideration or required immediate intervention from the judiciary due to their gravity. He expressed concerns about the erosion of the rule of law and constitutional principles in Pakistan, warning of the emergence of a “law of the jungle” if corrective measures weren’t taken promptly.

Drawing attention to the apparent injustices and anomalies in various spheres of governance, Imran stressed the crucial role of the judiciary in upholding justice and accountability. He cited instances where judicial action had been lacking or insufficient, calling for decisive steps to restore public confidence in the justice system.

Imran’s letter underscored the critical juncture faced by Pakistan, urging the CJP to demonstrate the judiciary’s commitment to constitutional supremacy and ensure that justice prevailed for all citizens. He invoked personal experiences and historical events to underscore the significance of the CJP’s role in upholding the Constitution and safeguarding the rights of the populace.

In conclusion, Imran urged the CJP to translate his commitment to constitutional principles into concrete actions, warning that failure to do so would deepen the constitutional crisis facing the country. He emphasized the need for tangible steps to address the challenges confronting Pakistan’s democratic institutions and ensure the rule of law prevailed.
