Info Minister proposes increasing taxes on tobacco to discourage its use

Minister for Information and Broadcasting, Murtaza Solangi, underscored the perilous impact of smoking on human lives, likening it to environmental degradation.

Speaking at an awareness event in Islamabad aimed at educating children about the dangers of smoking, he emphasized the visible consequences of smoking in our daily lives.

Solangi highlighted that smoking not only jeopardizes lives but also imposes a financial burden on the healthcare sector.

Emphasizing the need to bring attention to smoking, akin to other harmful substances, he described it as a malady claiming one life every six seconds on average and affecting one in ten individuals.

Paying homage to the heroes combating smoking, Solangi stressed the importance of raising taxes on tobacco as a measure to discourage its usage.
