Investigation reveals massive data breach at NADRA, millions of records compromised

An investigation report has uncovered a major data breach at the National Database Registration Authority (Nadra), revealing that the personal information of over two million individuals was stolen from 2019 to 2023 and subsequently transferred to Dubai.

The Joint Investigation Team (JIT), formed in March 2023 to probe the breach, disclosed these shocking findings in its report submitted to the Ministry of Interior. The report recommends strict action against Nadra officials responsible for negligence that facilitated the theft.

According to the report, data was compromised from Nadra’s offices in Multan, Karachi, and Peshawar. Additionally, the stolen data was reportedly traded in Argentina and Romania.

The breach came to light after the personal details of high-ranking military personnel were leaked online.
