Iqra Hasan, political dynamo challenging BJP in Uttar Pradesh

Iqra Hasan, a prominent figure hailing from a distinguished political lineage, has emerged as a formidable contender in the electoral battleground of Kairana, Uttar Pradesh.

Graduating from the esteemed London School of Oriental and African Studies, Iqra Hasan carries the torch of her family’s political legacy, with her grandfather and parents having served as members of the Lok Sabha, while her brothers have held seats in the state assembly.

At the age of 27, Iqra Hasan steps into the political arena amidst the backdrop of significant events, including the Muzaffarnagar Muslim riots of 2013 and subsequent demographic shifts, which have injected fervor into the electoral landscape. Born to Manoor Hasan and Tabasim Hasan, both esteemed politicians in their own right, Iqra Hasan inherits a legacy steeped in political acumen and public service.

Her grandfather, Akhtar Hasan, etched his name in the annals of Kairana’s political history by representing the constituency in the Lok Sabha during the 1980s. Additionally, Iqra’s elder brother, Naheed Hasan, has carved a path of his own, securing victory in the state assembly elections on three occasions.

Iqra Hasan’s foray into politics was catalyzed by the entanglement of her family members, including her brother and mother Tabsum Jafri, in legal battles with the Uttar Pradesh Police. In a remarkable display of resilience, Naheed Hasan contested the state assembly elections from his jail cell in 2021, clinching victory against formidable opponents.
