Irsa permits provinces to exceed water quotas for 10 days

With recent rainfall increasing water levels in reservoirs, the Indus River System Authority (Irsa) has authorized provinces to utilize more water than their allocated quotas for 10 days.

Irsa has observed surplus water storage in the nation’s rivers over the past ten days, prompting the decision to permit provinces to exceed their allotted water quotas.

Previously, the Irsa Advisory Board had instructed water diversion measures to address a 30 percent shortage.

Now, all provincial irrigation departments have been granted permission to utilize additional water for 10 days.

A formal notification has been issued, and after the stipulated 10-day period, the quota system will be reinstated based on available water resources and prevailing weather conditions.
