The Pakistan Telecommunication Authority (PTA) clarified that there’s no recommendation for a complete ban on the social media platform X, formerly known as Twitter.
Rumors circulating about such a ban are baseless. X has been temporarily banned since February 17 pending a compliance review with Pakistani laws.
The Interior Ministry stated to the Islamabad High Court that the ban was necessary due to X’s failure to comply with lawful directives and address concerns regarding platform misuse.
The ministry cited instances of non-cooperation from X officials, including disregarding requests from the Federal Investigation Agency (FIA) Cybercrime Wing.
The platform’s shutdown on February 17 was aimed at safeguarding national security and law and order.
