Islamabad’s ATC grants bail to Amjad Niazi, 63 PTI workers

Amjad Khan Niazi, a PTI chairman Imran Khan assistant, and 63 other party members were granted bail by an Islamabad Anti-Terrorism Court (ATC) on Friday in connection with a case involving violence that occurred outside the Federal Judicial Complex on March 18 when the former prime minister had arrived there for a court hearing.

The PTI leaders’ plea was granted by ATC judge Raja Jawad Abbasi, who also gave them instructions to provide surety bonds of Rs50,000.

After the former prime minister came at the FJC to attend a hearing in the Toshakhana case on Saturday, there were reports of hours-long skirmishes between PTI workers and the capital police.

A group of law enforcement officers and PTI supporters engaged in a violent altercation, using anti-riot gear and tear gas to push the other side back. Along with petrol bombs to set the police’s cars on fire, the PTI attacked the police with rocks.

Numerous officials were hurt in the fights, according to the Islamabad police, and many vehicles were set on fire.

Imran and many other PTI officials, including Amjad, were subsequently charged with terrorism.

More than 300 PTI supporters have also been detained, according to the Islamabad police, who claim they were involved in “incitement, arson, vandalism, and attacks on police,” according to a statement released on Wednesday.

At least 25 people were hurt, 30 vehicles, including motorbikes, and a police chowki were set on fire amid hours-long battles between the police and PTI members last week when the PTI head arrived in the FJC to attend the Toshakhana hearing.

The PTI leadership utilized social media to push followers to travel to the judicial complex, and this caused a sizable throng to gather there.

To ensure peace and order and prevent the crowd from entering the compound, up to 4,000 men, including 700 from FC and 1,000 from the Punjab police, were posted in and surrounding it.
