Israeli official reports stalled progress in Cairo talks for truce

An Israeli official informed Reuters that Israel has not observed any signs of progress in the Cairo negotiations for a truce with Hamas. Despite this, Israel intends to maintain its delegation of mid-level negotiators in the Egyptian capital.

On Monday, Hamas announced its acceptance of a ceasefire proposal presented by mediators from Egypt and Qatar. The proposal is structured into three phases and entails an initial cessation of hostilities, followed by the eventual withdrawal of Israeli forces from Palestinian territory. Additionally, the proposal includes provisions for the release of Israeli captives in Gaza and an unspecified number of Palestinians held in Israeli prisons.
