Israeli strikes intensify in Gaza, evacuations ordered

Israeli airstrikes and shelling in Gaza escalated significantly on Tuesday, with reports indicating some of the heaviest bombardments in weeks. Residents reported continuous bombardments across central, southern, and northern areas of the Gaza Strip, lasting almost 24 hours.

According to local authorities, the Israeli army issued evacuation orders in the north of Gaza, designating certain areas as “dangerous combat zones” and urging civilians to relocate to specified safer locations. Israeli army spokesperson Avichay Adraee emphasized the military’s intention to target terrorist infrastructure and subversive elements in the region.

Despite ongoing efforts to reach a ceasefire, renewed shelling and bombings persisted in northern Gaza, even after Israel had previously withdrawn troops from these areas. The recent escalation comes amid failed ceasefire negotiations, making it challenging for displaced Gazans to return to their homes.

The conflict also saw rockets launched from Gaza into southern Israeli border towns, with the armed wing of Islamic Jihad claiming responsibility. Tensions remain high as both sides continue to engage in hostilities despite previous attempts at de-escalation.

Meanwhile, concerns about humanitarian conditions in Gaza have grown, with the risk of famine being particularly acute in the northern part of the territory. The United Nations and other aid agencies have been working to provide assistance, but challenges persist due to ongoing hostilities.

The situation in Gaza remains volatile, with civilian casualties reported as a result of the conflict. Both Israel and Palestinian authorities have accused each other of various violations, adding to the complexity of efforts to achieve a lasting peace agreement.
